We have to use the internet to work that side hustle but it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Here is our guide to making money online as a freelancer.
Where to start
To run your hustle first up is finding your client. You’re going to want to define your target market early on as it’s a pretty essential first step especially when it comes to freelancing.
So, niche down your market. Get into your clients’ heads in order to figure out exactly what they need so that you can be the one to provide it for them.
After you niche down your offering, it’s time to craft a pitch that is tailored to them.
In doing so, you’ll want to emphasize the benefits of working with you – while not giving away too much information as to how you’ll help. Surprisingly enough, you might be at risk of losing a client by sharing exactly how you’d help them in your initial reach out.
Know what to charge and, very important, know why your work’s worth that price. What you should focus on, is your pricing model — of which there are a few to choose from, such as hourly, by project, or by retainer just to name a few. Basically, make money.
Though all of the above pricing models are perfectly fine to use when freelancing, I highly suggest you get paid by the hour when starting out. This way, they feel safer knowing they can stop paying you whenever they might be unsatisfied.
Once you’ve found a place to get clients and have an email that gets responses, keep iterating on it until you are constantly getting new clients. This is what separates winning freelancers from losing ones.
The question is can you actually freelance on the side.
To figure that out, you need to first answer two very important questions:
- What am I offering?
- Why would anyone want to buy from me?
That’s it. Once you have those two questions fully answered, you’re well on your way to a successful freelance career.
Especially as a freelancer, understanding customer needs, and creating effective marketing and communication tactics are imperative. At The Agency, these happen to be amongst our specialties. Reach out to find out what we can do for you.
